The Lonely Polygamist: A Novel by Brady Udall 9: Strange! Yet funny and good. Worth the read.
The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien 10: Incredible! Always a classic! Rereading before we see the movie!
Chick Days: An Absolute Beginner's Guide to Raising Chickens from Hatching to Laying by Jenna Woginrich and Mars Vilaubi 9 If you want to get excited about chicks, this will give you a great start! Can't wait for our flock to begin!
White Oleander by Janet Fitch 7: Not all that redemtive, and long too, but well written.
Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Life and Love from Dear Sugar by Cheryl Strayed 9: Funny, heartbreaking, a little cliche, but worth the read!
On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King 9: Stephen King swears a lot, which I appreciate. He also is a successful writer, so why not listen to him?
Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lammot A solid 10! Hilarious! Useful! Makes me want to write!
The Letter to the Philipians
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius by Dave Eggers 10 Disciples: Strange, and long and dense, but really worth the read.
Wild: Lost and Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed 11 Disciples: An amazing story by a fairly unique storyteller. Makes me want to get out my backpack and go!
The Book of Esther 12 Disciples! Sex, secrets, violence...this shit could be on Showtime!
This Odd and Wondrous Calling: The Public and Private Lives of Two Ministers by Lillian Daniel and Martin Copenhaver 12 Disciples: This is the book I want to write!
Home to Harmony by Phillip Gulley 5 Disciples: Bad writing, only nominal interesting, but great characters ala Vicar of Dibley.
Absurdistan by Gary Shteyngart 5 Disciples: Too random, even for me.
Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation by Lynne Truss 12 Disciples: Who knew punctuation coudl be so interesting? And hilarious?
Regresy: Where DIY Meets WTF by April Winchell 9 Disciples: So funny it made me pee my pants...though everyone might not "get it."
The Story of Edgar Sawtelle by David Wroblewski 6 Disciples: Still not sure what this book is really about...but I kept reading 'til the end!
Girl with a Pearl Earring by Tracy Chevalier 4 Disciples: Yawn!
Transforming Congregational Culture by Anthony Robinson 11 Disciples: Helpful! Not preachy or boring...a triumph!
Memories, Hopes, and Conversations: Appreciative Inquiry and Congregational Change by Mark Lau Branson 10 Disciples: Because I don't want to spend all day hearing about how much you hated your last pastor!
